Three Jackets compete at Elite Meet

Perham senior Brittany Gigstead once again proved why she can be considered among Minnesota's best distance runners.

On Friday, Gigstead, State Class A cross country champ Kevin Lachowitzer, Eddie Stenger competed in the Hamline Elite Meet in St. Paul. Only nine runners in the State qualify in each event, except the mile and two-mile where, 12 will compete.

Gigstead was the top seed in the 800 meters with a 2:16 heading into the meet. She held up to her ranking, winning the race with a 2:15.81. Second place went to Megan Lundgren of Mankato East with a time of 2:17.97.

Gigstead has signed to run cross country and track at North Dakota State.

Lachowitzer ran the 3200m in a race that featured four runners who have won state championships and have ran under 9:15 in the two-mile, and a pair of Footlocker finalists and a U.S. Junior CC champ. Lachowitzer broke the school record with a 9:37.96, good for eighth place. Rob Finnerty of Burnsville won the race with a 9:04.55.

Stenger ran the 1600m, finishing eighth (4:29.37). The race had a field of eight runners that have ran under 4:27 this spring. Irondale's Andy Richardson won the race with a time of 4:17.10.

The three missed out on taking part in the K.T. Smith Invite in Breckenridge on April 26 with the rest of their Jacket teammates.

The Perham boys finished second overall (119) behind Breckenridge (184.5). The Yellowjacket girls were third (74) behind Agassiz Valley (103) and Breckenridge (96).

Jake Hunter won the 300m hurdles (42.60) and was second in the 100m hurdles (16.98). Kurt Weber was second in the 300m and third in the 110m behind Hunter.

Justin Tellinghuisen won the 3200m with a time of 10:12.36 and Nathan Lillis won the pole vault by clearing 13'0".

The 4x400 relay team of Bryan Paridon, Parker Carignan, Tristan Covington and Hunter won with a time of 3:38.24 and the 4x800 team of Tellinghuisen, Paridon, Covington and Carignan took first with a time of 8:35.78.

For the girls, Maddie McClellan was first in the 1600m with a time of 5:22.54. Abby Anderson was fourth (5:32.62), followed by Alli Januszewski in seventh (5:39.90). Diana Tastad was third in the 3200m (12:45.98).

Another first place finish was turned in by the 4x800 relay team of Holly Sheets, Jenna Gigstead, Januszewski and Anderson (10:16.63).

Becca Peloquin was second in the 100m hurdles (17:55) while Heather Schultz was second in the shot put (33'5.5").

Perham will tune-up for the True Team Section by competing in Pelican Rapids today (May 3).

The Section 8AA True Team Meet will be held in Park Rapids on May 8 starting at noon.
