The opportunity to file and run for the New York Mills School Board is here. The filing period opened July 5 and closes July 18 at 5 p.m. The district will hold two elections this year. A special election to fill one 2-year seat and a regular election to fill three seats will be held.

Candidates must file for one or the other. Josie Hendrickx is currently serving the seat up for the 2-year term special election after she was appointed last year. She has filed to run for the 2-year term.

Seats up for election for 4-year terms are currently held by Rachel Grieger, Chuck Jacobson and DuWayne Roberts. Those winning the three positions for 4-year terms will take over Jan. 1, and the 2-year term will be effective immediately after the election.

If three people file for the 2-year term special election or if seven file for the 4-year term the district is required to hold a primary on Sept. 12. The top six would move on to the regular election and the top two would be up for the special election.

Candidates can file at the district office. There is a $2 filing fee.
