I have recently been hearing about the summer Turtle Fest. it seems that there are people in town that assume that this celebration is a detraction to our summer or an unworthy cause.
I was involved with the first Turtle Fest when the city took over from the Jaycees. At the time they wanted to make the celebration something the city could be proud of. For a long time it has been but it seems people have the same problem. Too lazy to make the effort to make a difference.
There have been rumblings of some of the stores losing business during the festivities. In my opinion if those four or five days will hurt the business, they had better look at their own marketing strategy. Businesses fail on their own shortcomings.
From what I have seen we all benefit from the influx of people plus the cohesiveness of doing something fun together. This is what keeps a town alive and productive.
If there is someone involved who thinks that it is too much work then they might not be the person needed to help the city stay together? We as a community need to stay involved to remain alive and upbeat as a city.

I have had breakfast in a lot of towns and they all have the same basic need and concern That is how to be a vibrant and noticeable community . The Turtle Fest is a vital and fun part of our town. To lose the Turtle Fest would hurt in the long run more than most can imagine.
I think all the businesses in town should pull together to enhance and help keep Perham alive and a noticeable town to live and work in.
I write as I speak so all you English teachers forgive me for that.
