LARIMORE, N.D. - An accident involving an elementary school bus and a train occurred just east of Larimore just before 4 p.m. Monday.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol confirmed that two people are dead.

According to the Grand Forks County Sheriff’s Office, North Dakota Highway Patrol, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, four or five sheriff’s deputies, and a deputy from the Larimore Police Department are on the scene.

Larimore Elementary Principal Leslie Wiegandt and Superintendent Roger Abbe, who was driving in from Midway, N.D., were also at the scene, according to school officials.

Grand Forks County State’s Attorney Peter Welte said he had heard from his wife that the school bus his two children normally ride had been struck by a train. Neither rode the bus today.
