DETROIT LAKES, Minn. – Two Becker County jail inmates are back in custody after a short-lived escape Saturday.

Sheriff Kelly Shannon said 30-year-old Scott Allan Sellers and 20-year-old Arlan Ray Bergstrom escaped from the jail by removing a metal plate from the handicap shower, then breaking out a 9-inch-wide window before lowering themselves to the ground. Sellers’ arm was cut severely by broken glass in the escape.

Shannon said the sheriff’s department caught the two men within the hour, with help from the Detroit Lakes, Frazee, Lake Park, Audubon and Callaway police departments and the Minnesota State Patrol. Sellers was treated for his cuts at a nearby hospital, and both were back at the jail Saturday afternoon.

The sheriff’s department could not specify what kind of additional charges the two would be facing in light of the escape.
