In two innings against Wadena-Deer Creek Tuesday night, the Lady Jacket softball team saw their chance for a three-game win-streak turn into a pair of losses, leaving them at 1-7 to start the season.

Game one of Tuesdays doubleheader against W-DC was a back-and-forth affair. The Wolverines broke open a 4-4 tie in the sixth with three runs. Perham answered with two in their half of the inning on a RBI single by Kayla Speicher.

After holding W-DC in the top of the seventh, Perham had the game tying run on third and the winning run on second base with two outs, but couldnt get them home in a 7-6 loss.

In game two, Perham held a 6-4 lead heading into the seventh, when a questionable call by the umpire gave W-DC a run scoring triple. Shaken, the Perham defense committed two errors on the next two plays, helping the Wolverines to a seven-run rally, giving them the sweep with an 11-6 win.

Those were two very disappointing games, head coach Pam Young said. We could have won both of them.

First win

Those losses came one day after Perham picked up their first victory of the season, a 11-3 win over Pelican Rapids.

Perhams offensive attack centered around three hitters. Dani Stoll, Lauri Sczygiel and Alyssa Stafki combined for six hits, five runs scored and seven RBI.

Minnewaska Tournament

Perham struggled in their three games in the Minnewaska Tournament on Saturday, losing all three games by a combined score of 28-7. They opened the tourney with a 7-0 loss to Minnewaska, then fell 8-1 to K-M-S. Their final loss was a 13-6 decision against LP-GE.

The Jacket bats were silent last Thursday as well against one of the top teams in Section 8AA. D-G-F scored five runs in the second and four more in the sixth on their way to an 11-1 win over Perham.

D-G-Fs Stacie Dreschel, the Rebel pitcher, went 3-for-4 from the plate while allowing just six hits and one walk from the mound.

The Jackets one run came in the fifth inning. Brandi Cresap walked with one out in the inning. She scored the teams lone run on an RBI by Dani Stoll.

After playing seven games in six days, Perhams schedule slows down a bit this week. They will head to Park Rapids for a Mid-State doubleheader on May 2. They will follow that up with another conference double-dip on May 5 at Detroit Lakes.
