Underwood woman dies in fall from horse

A 48-year-old Underwood, Minn., woman died Wednesday afternoon, March 15, after falling from the horse she was riding and sustaining a head injury, according to the Otter Tail County Sheriff's Office.

A 48-year-old Underwood, Minn., woman died Wednesday afternoon, March 15, after falling from the horse she was riding and sustaining a head injury, according to the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office.

Kirsten Laney, of Oakdale Road near Underwood, was riding a horse with her friend in a wooded area near her home when the horse was suddenly spooked. Laney fell from the horse and hit her head, the report said.

She and her friend, who was riding a second horse, had been riding for approximately 30 minutes before the accident.

Underwood is located about 10 miles east of Fergus Falls.
