Mrs. Verna Leona (Heino) Cassidy, 79 of Frederick, MD died on August 26, 2006 in Frederick Memorial Hospital, Frederick, MD. She was in failing health for the past year and critically ill for the past week.

Mrs. Verna Leona (Heino) Cassidy, 79 of Frederick, MD died on August 26, 2006 in Frederick Memorial Hospital, Frederick, MD. She was in failing health for the past year and critically ill for the past week.

She was born on September 19, 1926 in New York Mills, Minnesota; she was the daughter of the late Victor and Selena (Matalamaki) Heino. She lived her early life in New York Mills, MN.

Mrs. Cassidy graduated from New York Mills High School with the class of 1944.

She and her husband of over 57 years, Mr. Thomas G. Cassidy, Sr., were married on June 25, 1949 in Assumption Catholic Church in Washington, DC. They moved to the Waynesboro area in 1984 and to the present residence in April 2005.

During World War II, Mrs. Cassidy worked for the Naval Department in Washington DC until 1951. She then worked part-time in a doctor's office in Gaithersburg, MD but most her time was being a loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker.

Mrs. Cassidy was a member of St. Timothy's Catholic Church in Walkersville, MD and the Knights of Columbus Council 2068 Ladies Auxiliary of Waynesboro.

She enjoyed reading, cooking, baking, making special birthday cakes, crafts, gardening, bird watching and was an avid Baltimore Orioles fan.

Mrs. Cassidy did volunteer work for the Soup Kitchen in Waynesboro, gave communion to church shut ins, and was a C.C. D. teacher.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Patricia A. Bauer of Walkersville, MD; Mary C. Bibeau of Stonington, CT, three sons, Thomas G. Cassidy, Jr. of Frederick; Michael P. Cassidy of Saguache, CO; John W. Cassidy of Atlanta, GA, 13 grandchildren, three sisters, Auna Lassen, Oakdale, MN; Lillian Kuivinen of Fergus Falls, MN; Miriam Jarvi of Cromwell, MN; one brother, Kenneth Heino of Talent, OR and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers.

Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 30 at St. Andrew Catholic Church, Waynesboro. Burial was at St. Andrew Cemetery, Waynesboro.
