Vernon Herman Lubitz, age 79, of Perham, MN, died Friday, October 27, 2006, at his home. Funeral services were Tuesday, October 31, 2006, at St. John's Lutheran Church-Corliss, rural Perham, with Reverend Del Meyer officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Visitation was Monday, October 30, from 5:00 - 8:00 pm with a prayer service, Schoeneberger Funeral Home, Perham, and one hour prior to services at the church.

Vernon was born June 3, 1927, in Corliss Township, MN, the son of Herman and Bertha (Brasel) Lubitz. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church-Corliss. On June 18, 1952, Vernon was married to Darlene Wiedemann in St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Perham. Together they had three children and farmed until Vernon's semi-retirement in 1992. He served on the township board and as fire warden for 33 years. Vernon also served on numerous church boards and sang in the church choir, was a member of the men's club, and dartball league. He also liked to fish, hunt, sing, dance, and play cards.

Vernon is survived by his wife, Darlene, Perham, MN; three children, Linda (David) Kleinke, Wadena, MN; Laren "Jack" (Janice) Lubitz, Perham, MN; and Leane (Jerome) Trautmann, Glyndon, MN; eight grandchildren, Michael (Rhonda) Kleinke, serving in Iraq; Amy Kleinke, Kim (Peter) Erickson, Jon (Liz Dosland) Kleinke, Jessica (Mike Dupuis) Lubitz, Jamie Lubitz, Kurtis Trautmann, and Timothy Trautmann; seven great grandchildren, Brittani Groshong, Brayden and Bryanna Kleinke, Caleb Kleinke, Erin and Ethan Erickson, and Ciana Jo Murphy and two more on the way, one great grandchild Kleinke and one great grandchild Dupuis; two sisters, Evelyn Huwe and Delores (Buster) Fiedler; one brother, Herbert (Laura) Lubitz; four sisters-in-law, Bernice Lubitz, Ida Carstens, Lorraine Ziegler, and Hattie Wanderi; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Vernon is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Elmer and Arthur; one daughter; and one grandson.

Schoeneberger Funeral Home, Perham, MN, is in charge of the arrangements.
