Veteran journalist Paula Quam has been named editor of the Perham Focus.

Quam, who grew up in Glyndon, Minn., began her journalism education at Minnesota State University Moorhead and continued it through the U.S. Air Force, training to be a TV and Radio reporter/broadcaster at the Defense Information School in Maryland.

After four years of doing primarily TV news for the Armed Forces Network for stations in Turkey and Italy, Quam returned to the states to enter the civilian world.

She then worked as a reporter and news anchor for CBS and FOX affiliates in Fargo-Moorhead for six years.

Quam began writing for the newspaper in Detroit Lakes six years ago and was named editor of the Detroit Lakes Tribune in February of 2016 and editor of the Wadena Pioneer Journal in April. She says she's now excited to add editor of the Perham Focus to her list of duties.

"Perham is one of those amazing little communities that is small enough to have that small town charm but still vibrant and progressive and buzzing with activity," said Quam. "I'm so thrilled to get the chance to be a part of it all and to help tell this town's stories."

The Detroit Lakes Tribune, Perham Focus and the Pioneer Journal are all owned by Forum Communications Co.
