Perham Mayor Kevin Keil has declared Saturday, May 12, Buddy Poppy Day.

Members of Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 4020 of Perham and its Ladies Auxiliary will be distributing Buddy Poppies in various locations throughout Perham on May 12. The proceeds from poppy distributions will be used to help veterans from past and present conflicts in their time of need.

As the Flower of Remembrance, the VFW Buddy Poppy is a symbol of all who have given their lives in our nation's wars. The poppy is recognized as the memorial flower all over the world.

It helps people remember all of the veterans who have fought in the past, and are presently fighting, to preserve our nation's freedom.

Donations will be taken for the poppies. Citizens are encouraged to wear them on their lapels.
