A few men and women slipped on a pair of high heel shoes and walked down Perham's Main Street to prevent violence against women last Friday. Walk a Mile in Her Shoes is sponsored by Someplace Safe, and acts as an awareness event.
After choosing from a range of sizes and styles, participants trotted from the Perham Fire Department to the corner of First Avenue South. From there, they put on their real shoes and were off to the Someplace Safe office for lunch.
While the group wasn't large enough to stop traffic, heads turned as they saw the banner followed by men clunking awkwardly behind.
"I can't say I've ever done this, but I have a newfound respect for women who wear these," said Nick Stromme as he tried on a pair of heels. "It's harder than it looks."
Ankles were sore and tendons stretched as the group crossed the finish line.
