Wenston Kenyon, 56, of rural Underwood died Wednesday, September 20, 2006 as the result of a car accident.
He was born November 2, 1949, in Fergus Falls the son of Harvey and Myrtle (Danielson) Kenyon.. He attended grade school at District #187 in Friberg Township, rural Fergus Falls, and graduated from Fergus Falls High School in 1967. Following graduation he joined the U.S. Navy and served three tours in Viet Nam from 1968-1972 as an Aviation Electronics Technician, 2nd Class Petty Officer. He served on the USS Kearsarge, USS Ranger and USS Enterprise.
Wenston returned to Fergus Falls and attended two years at the Fergus Falls Junior College. In 1978 he received his Ironworker Journeyman's license. He was also a construction worker and later worked for Mid Am Dairy.
His life was all about the outdoors. He lived on a hobby farm and enjoyed raising horses and gardening. His faithful companion was his dog, Zepher, who gave him 14 years of loyalty and comfort. Zepher also died as a result of the accident. Wenston had a musical talent and enjoyed playing guitar and singing for his friends and family, while blending in his great sense of humor. He found great joy in tending to his numerous aquariums and wild birds. He had a passion for collecting old cars and hunting. He loved visiting friends and relatives and always enjoyed making his famous homemade "dynamite" potato salad.
The last six years of his life, Wenston fought hard to overcome illnesses related to his duties in the service. He never gave up hope and was determined to live many more healthy years. This past summer was especially meaningful to him, being able to spend lots of time with his family and friends, including two family reunions which gave him great joy and strength. Wenston has many family members and friends who cared for him and helped him through his past years of illness. We thank you on his behalf. Special thank you to Steven Whitcomb for all your help and encouragement.
