GRAND FORKS, N.D. – A winter storm has the potential to dump 6 to 10 inches of snow over southeastern North Dakota and west-central Minnesota on Thursday, the National Weather Service says.
A winter storm watch is in effect from late tonight through late Thursday night for counties including Sargent and Richland in North Dakota and Grant, Otter Tail and Wilkin in Minnesota.
Fargo-Moorhead has a 60 percent chance of snow Thursday, with 2 to 4 inches possible, the weather service predicts.
The weather service says an upper-level area of low pressure will move from western Nebraska into southeastern South Dakota late tonight, and as it does a band of snow is expected to develop and lift north into southeastern North Dakota and west-central Minnesota.
Peak snowfall is expected to occur during the mid-morning through Thursday afternoon. The weather service said the northern extent of the heaviest snow totals are less certain and the area affected may need to be adjusted. Up to 12 inches of snow is possible in isolated areas.

The snowfall would add to already significant snowpack expected to contribute to major flooding on the north-flowing Red River.
