Woman, two children killed in Highway 2 rollover crash near Cass Lake

A 27-year-old Mississippi woman and two children, ages 1 and 3, were killed in a single-vehicle rollover crash Saturday on U.S. Highway 2 near Cass Lake.

A 27-year-old Mississippi woman and two children, ages 1 and 3, were killed in a single-vehicle rollover crash Saturday on U.S. Highway 2 near Cass Lake.

The woman's 28-year-old husband, the driver of the Dodge Dakota pickup, was reported in critical condition at a Duluth hospital, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

The crash happened at about 5:40 p.m. on Highway 2 about nine miles east of Cass Lake. A pickup driven by Jeremiah Statham of Foxworth, Miss., was traveling eastbound when it lost control on the icy highway, left the road, hit some trees and a stump and rolled over. The truck came to rest on its roof.

Statham's wife, Catherine; son Jeremiah, 3, and daughter Emma, 1, died from their injuries , the Patrol reported. The elder Jeremiah Statham was transported to Essentia Health St. Mary's Medical Center in critical condition.

The Patrol reported that all occupants of the pickup were wearing seat belts or other safety restraints, and that no alcohol was detected in the driver's system.
