Perham Living selects Valentines Day Royalty
Perham Living selected it's Valentine's Day Royalty on Wednesday, picking two residents from each house. This year's royalty included Ruth Steuber, Argil Lueders, Leone "Belle" Erickson, Erwin Peter Kraai, Marion Underhill and Lloyd Scwartz.
Ruth Steuber was born in Gettsyburg, S.D. She married her husband Oscar at St. John's Lutheran Church in Corliss Township. They have five children, 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Some of her favorite leisure activities include the strength and balance class, listening to music, attending history trivia, book club and going to church service. She came to Perham Living in 2015. Ruth was crowned queen from the Prairie Knoll household.
Argil Lueders was born in Perham in 1932. After graduating from Perham High School he served in the U.S. Army. He and his wife Gladys have four children and 12 grandchildren. Some of the places he's traveled to include, Florida, California, Texas, and Mackinaw Island in Michigan. Argil participates in Bible study, playing cards, games, church service, outings with family and musical events. Argil was crowned king from the Pine Harbor household.
Leone "Belle" Erickson has a smile for everyone and keeps her friends laughing, singing, and smiling. She participates in many activities, such as the strength and balance class, book club, games, and crafts. Her favorite is the sing-a-along. Belle was crowned queen from the Burlington and Timber Grove households.
Erwin Peter Kraai served in two branches of the military, the first was in the U.S. Navy during World War II and then in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was an engineer with Kodak, an occupation which allowed him to travel all over the world. He says the best place he visited was South Africa. He has two daughters, Adell and Kristin.
At Perham Living, Peter is involved with the food committee, the foster grandparents program, strength and balance, and Sunday fellowship. Peter was crowned king from the the Timber Grove and Burlington households.
Marion Underhill came to Perham Living in 2017. She loves to laugh, have fun and color. She keeps a display of her artwork in her room. She was born in Iowa, attended school in Minneapolis and worked in food service at the University of Minnesota. She has two children, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Her hobbies include, word puzzles, bingo, and attending musical events. Marion was crowned queen from the Pine Harbor household.
Lloyd Scwartz was born in Wadena at his parents' farm. He spent two years in the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War.
He and wife Joanne will be married 62 years on May 29. His secret to that many years of marriage is, "keep your mouth shut," he says with a laugh. He and his wife have six children, 12 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. He's worked as a farmer, was employed by Merickle Lumber in Wadena, and spent 54 years as a truck driver. He quit at 78 years young. He moved to Perham Living in 2017. He enjoys the strength and balance program, bingo and musical events Lloyd was crowned king from the Harvest Glen household.
