Barn collapses near New York Mills
Sheriff deputies reported the collapse of a barn north of New York Mills at 5:30 p.m. on March 12.
The location was close to Highway 67.
The south half of a large loafing barn, owned by Kohler Dairy, collapsed and trapped from 80 to 100 cattle. The good news is that many of the cattle were outside the 110-by-200-foot facility when first responders arrived.
"The New York Mills Fire Department and multiple neighbors assisted the owners with removing approximately two dozen cattle," said County Sheriff Administrative Lt. Keith Van Dyke.
Later, enough debris was removed with a track-hoe so that the dairy operation could again be functional.
Also on the scene, in addition to sheriff's deputies and the Mills fire department, was Tri County Ambulance.
"There were multiple family members, neighbors and friends assisting with the cleanup as well," Van Dyke added.
