Why does good old-fashioned competition always get thrown out when it comes to city owned business?

The city of Perham opposes a privately owned liquor store in Pelican Rapids because it will affect profits.

People like me have to pay inflated prices on products from the city because of lack of competition in the liquor store business.

This goes against what makes America great -- good old-fashioned competition to bring prices down for all.

I'm against all city-owned business. They should not be in any private retail business. They should be in the business of streets and bringing new business to town, not excluding competition from private people willing to invest and give the general public better prices.
