Marty Sazama displayed the 30-foot long dragonfly sculpture at the EOT County Fair that stands out now along Hwy 78 between Perham and Ottertail. Sazama, 17-years-old at the time, was commissioned by Tom Meinhover to build the sculpture.

A black bear was sighted in the city limits of New York Mills in Dave Braukman's backyard, on the east side of town. Several neighbors confirmed the sighting.

25 years ago (1985):

The Perham-Dent school district used space at the EOT County Fair to answer bond issue questions regarding a proposed $8.4 million project.

Larry Kroshus, of New York Mills, apprehended Luis Paul Rivera, 29, of Washington, D.C., after finding the intruder inside his residence. Kroshus held Rivera at gunpoint with his shotgun until Mark Englund. of the NY Mills police department. arrived to make the arrest. Rivera was charged with first-degree burglary.

50 years ago (1960):

Flames and billowing clouds of black smoke were pouring out of the Farmers Union GTA elevator annex. The elevator, with a capacity of 40,000 bushels, was about three-fourths full of corn, oats and soybean meal. It was the second annex fire since 1958.

Mrs. William (Alice) Peters, 45, rural Bluffton, was killed in a head-on collision with a semi-trailer near the Leaf River Bridge. The Peters' car was thrown into the north ditch and was demolished. Mrs. Peters' daughter, Mary Ann, 18, the driver of the car, was taken to Wesley Hospital in Wadena, in good condition.
