The Perham Legion baseball team had a successful road trip to Wisconsin Dells June 25-June 27, going 3-0 before having to forfeit the championship game Sunday, June 27, due to weather delays on Saturday.

Perham made a statement in their first game Friday, June 25, against the Lost Boyz Pirates from Chicago, winning 9-1, and they continued to dominate in the second game of the day, defeating MVP Academy from the Wisconsin Dells area 9-2.

In the first game, Perham scored two runs in the first inning when Logan Pulju singled. They added two more in the top of the third inning when Maddux Kovash drove in Chas Melvin. Kovash later scored on a wild pitch. The fifth inning saw two more runs for Perham when Jack Mensing doubled, driving in Pulju and Gage Germolus. Melvin, Pulju, and Germolus drove in the final three runs in the sixth inning.

Melvin earned the win for Perham. He gave up one hit and struck out five over three innings. Caden Schossow pitched two innings in relief and struck out two batters before Austin Aanenson pitched the last inning of the game, giving up one hit and one run while striking out one and walking one.

In the second game Friday, MVP Academy took an early 2-0 lead and held on to it until the sixth inning, when Perham scored four runs and took the lead. They added five more runs in the seventh inning to clinch their second victory of the day.

Aanenson got the win for Perham on the mound, giving up one hit and striking out four over three innings. He came in for Schossow, who gave up four hits and two runs while striking out two and walking one over four innings. Perham finished the first day tied with Thundercat Academy for first place in pool play.

On Saturday the rain came, and more than 100 games were canceled, according to coach James Mulcahy. Because of the cancellations, some of the game times were changed for Sunday. The championship game was pushed back, so the team decided to leave after their first game of the day regardless of the outcome.

On Sunday, Perham faced MVP Academy again, and this time four pitchers combined to throw a no-hitter. Perham won 11-0. The team once again got their offense started in the first inning when Kovash doubled, scoring one run. They added five runs in the fourth inning, with Mensing, Germolus, Austin Schmelz, and Blaiz Schmidt all getting RBIs.

Maddux Kovash got the victory for Perham, striking out one over one inning. Schmelz, Germolus, and Evan Kovash each pitched one inning out of the bullpen and helped the team to victory.

In addition to the 10 hits the team had on the day, including multiple hits from Aanenson and Maddux Kovash, Perham didn't commit one error in the field.

Perham hosts a doubleheader against East Grand Forks Wednesday, June 30, at 4 p.m.
