Despite needing a win in a play-in game, the Perham Pirates are still alive in the Region 14C amateur baseball playoffs, with a chance for a state berth.

Perham won three games against one loss and will now play either New York Mills or Bluffton on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Krueger Field in Perham for a trip to the Region 14C Championship game and the Class C State Tournament.

Bluffton and New York Mills play on Friday Night at 7:30 p.m. at Krueger Field.

Midway, which handed Perham it's only loss last weekend, has already secured a spot in the championship game and a state berth.

In Perham's opening round play-in game against Wolf Lake, on Friday, Aug. 7, the Pirates rallied for a 9-7 win.

With Wolf lake ahead 5-4 in the top of the eighth, Perham's Chris Ruther came in in relief , threw one pitch, inducing a double play to get out to end a rally. Perham then scored 5 runs in the bottom of the inning, with Ruther and Carter Mulcahy both hitting doubles.

The next day in the first round, Perham beat Nimrod 3-1 with Maddux Kovash pitching a complete came with six strikeouts.

In the second round Perham beat New York Mills 7-3 with another five innings from Kovash. Perham was leading 5-0 when an injury forced them to call in a player or else forfeit. David Green helped keep the Pirates run alive by being able to show up in the allotted time and take the field for Perham.

But on Sunday, Perham fell to Midway 12-2 in eight innings, giving Midway its 22nd trip to state and fourth state appearance in the past five years.
