PERHAM — Payton Jordahl and Eli Beachy matched their five combined touchdowns scored in the opener in a repeat performance backed up by a shutout from the defense in a 47-0 blowout of East Grand Forks on Parents’ Night, Senior Night and in the Heart O’ Lakes-North Conference opening game for the Yellowjackets.

"(The defense) played so solid," Defensive Coordinator Kyle Knutson said. "All the way through, our first group, our second group got a huge stop on fourth down; we got our third stringers in there. It was fun."

Both rushers benefited from another stellar game by the offensive line. Jordahl scored from five and 20 yards in the first quarter to put Perham up 14-0.

"Domination," Jordahl said. "We're really good. Our senior lineman picked up a lot of experience and I trust them with everything and that's a huge deal for us."

Beachy scored from six yards out with 7:37 to play until the half, then hit Tyler Glines on a 12-yard pass to put Perham up 27-0 two minutes later.

Late in the second quarter, Jordahl scored again on defense picking up a fumble caused when Austin Erickson sacked EGF quarterback Trevor Selk. Jordahl scored his second defensive touchdown in as many games from 16 yards out and the rout was on 34-0 by the half. Jordahl closed out the half in the season-opening win over Pelican Rapids with a game-changing 73-yard fumble return for a score.

"That's all about our defensive lineman making a big hit on the quarterback and I guess I happened to be at the right place at the right time," Jordahl said. "

Two minutes into the third quarter Nick Bahls hit Austin Filipi and recovered a Filipi fumble giving Perham the ball in the red zone at the 14-yard line.

Jordahl for eight yards and Beachy scored from the six around left end. Perham led 40-0.

Perham’s second unit got a score on a lengthy drive led by quarterback Mason Malikowski and running back William Parks. The duo rattled off over eight minutes on a 10-play 59-yard scoring drive that took the running clock to less than a minute to play. Parks scored from a yard out for the 47-0 final.

Perham’s offense was so productive and in good field position all game the punt team never touched the field.

Perham earned 18 first downs while the defense held East Grand Forks to only five.

Perham gained 228 yards on the ground. Jordahl was 11-77, while 10 other Perham runners added to the total. Beachy was 3-4 passing for 61 yards and a touchdown. Perham gained 289 total yards, but the big story was on defense where the Yellowjackets held East Grand Forks to just 98 total yards from scrimmage.

Cole Schmitz led the way with seven tackles, five solo, one for a loss and a forced fumble. Andrew Johnson had another productive day stopping the ball with six stops. Erickson, Jonathon Siira and Dan Ingebrand each had a sack.

Perham (2-0) will play its first road game of the season at Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton (1-1) next week. The Rebels defeated East Grand Forks 20-6, but were defeated on the road Friday by Pelican Rapids (1-1) by a score of 28-22, thanks to Ryan Bruggeman, who went off on the Rebels rushing for 310 yards and four touchdowns.

"They're a good team," said Jordahl. "We've just got to come out and play a game like we did tonight."

"They've got a lot of seniors and they're a well-coached program," said Knutson. "We're going to work real hard next week, play the game and see how it works out."

In two games, Perham has outscored their opponents 83-27 averaging 42.5 points per game and 56 of the 83 points have come by halftime, 28 each in the first and second quarters, allowing the Yellowjackets to play with the lead early in games.

Jordahl is averaging 128.5 yards per game rushing 27 times for 257 yards and has yet to be tackled for a loss, while scoring six touchdowns, four rushing, two on fumble recoveries totaling 89 return yards. Beachy did not need to run much Friday. He has 112 yards rushing in two games and a nose for the end zone having scored four times. The senior duo have scored 62 of Perham's 83 points.

Schmitz leads the team in tackles with 14. Ingebrand and Johnson each have a dozen.
