Three Perham wrestlers will compete in the Minnesota state tournament after placing in the top two in their respective weight classes in the state preliminary tournament Saturday, March 20. The state tournament will be held at St. Michael-Albertville High School Friday, March 26.
Junior Brian Ramos was the only Yellowjacket to place first in the state preliminary tournament, defeating Kaden Hartwell of Fergus Falls in the 182 weight class on a fall at 2:39. Ramos has an individual record of 27-1 on the season.
In the 106 weight class, freshman Chandler Mickelson finished second, defeating Foley's Cyler Ruhoff on a 6-3 decision. Mickelson's record is 27-5 this season.
Senior Jack Fudge, who had a season record of 27-2, placed second in the 152 weight class. He defeated Princeton's Zach Wells on an injury 3:34 into the match.
Three additional Yellowjackets competed in the state prelims but did not place in the top two. Junior Gareth Covington finished sixth in the 126 weight class, junior Blake Lorentz finished sixth in the 160 weight class, and junior Gordon Enyart just missed the cut, finishing third in the 195 weight class.
