BBB: Oak Grove rallies late, clips Perham in overtime

Fargo-Fargo Oak Grove’s Isaac Olson connected on three 3-pointers, but it was his final one that was the biggest for the Grovers.

Olson’s 3-pointer just before time expired sent the game to overtime.

In overtime, the Grovers took a lead they would not relinquish in picking up a 79-78 victory over the Perham Yellowjackets at the Fargo Civic Memorial Auditorium on Saturday.

Olson, Carter Kretchman and Christian Adams provided the offense in their come-from-behind win over Perham.

Olson finished with 19, while Kretchman added 23 and Adams finished with 20.

Costly turnovers and missed free throws late hurt the Yellowjackets.

Perham led by three with 23.4 left in the game. Jaden Anderson hit one of two, which was followed by a 3-pointer from Kretchman.

Christian Weis hit two free-throws to bring it back to three. However, two missed free throws with 10.8 seconds to go, gave the Grovers hope.

After Olson hit the 3-pointer, momentum turned and Oak Grove took control in overtime.

Oak Grove built up a six-point lead, 79-73, before Aaron Solberg banked in a 3-pointer. A costly turnover on an inbounds pass by Oak Grove allowed Sam Muer to cut it to one.

The Yellowjackets had a chance to win the game after two missed free throws; however, Jenson Beachy’s 3-point attempt was no good.

The Yellowjackets hit a barrage of 3-pointers in the first half. Jaden Anderson connected on three of his five in the first half.

The Yellowjackets built up a 33-23 lead after a 3-pointer from Weis.

The momentum turned after a 3-pointer from Kretchman, and Oak Grove closed the half on an 8-0 run.

The Yellowjackets stretched it back to 10 in the second half, and appeared that they were on their way to that marquee win.

Oak Grove, the sixth ranked team in North Dakota’s Class B had other ideas. Oak Grove outscored Perham 17-7 in the final 3:26 of the game.

Free throws played a big role in the outcome. Oak Grove hit 17 of 27, while Perham hit 13 of 22. Kretchman was perfect at the line, sinking all 10 attempts, including four in overtime.

The Yellowjackets have now lost three straight, and are 9-12 overall on the season.
