Glyndon-The Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton Rebels used an 18-4 run to eventually pull away from the pesky Perham Yellowjackets on Thursday, March 5 at the DGF High School gymnasium.

Natalie Steichen led four players in double figures as the Rebels erased a 10-point first half deficit while picking up a 63-52 victory over the Yellowjackets.

Steichen finished with 22 points, 12 of them from the 3-point line. Anna Smith and Alyson Brenna added 10 points each, while Ally Reno finished with 11 points.

Josie Beachy led a spirted Yellowjacket effort with 16 points. Janie Wunderlich finished with 11 points for the Yellowjackets.

The Yellowjackets used a 15-5 first half run to take a 29-19 lead in the first half. Wunderlich scored seven of her 11 points during that surge.

The Rebels countered with five straight of their own, yet it was Brittany Miller’s basket in the closing seconds that sent Perham into the locker room, leading by seven, 31-24.

The Rebels started out the second half on a 7-2 run, cutting the Yellowjacket led to two, 33-31.

However, it was their second run of the half that gave them their first lead since early in the first half.

Steichen sparked a 23-6 surge for the Rebels with five straight points, cutting the lead to one.

Carolynn Baardsen answered, extending the Yellowjacket lead to three, 48-45.

A deep two-pointer by Faith Anderson, followed by two free throws from Jena Jacobson gave the Rebels their first lead since it was 13-12 in the first half.

Four straight points from Gabby DeBoer cut the lead to six late in the second half. However, the Yellowjackets would not get any closer as the Rebels held off Perham’s comeback bid.

The Rebels improve to 18-7 overall on the season. They will now face Pelican Rapids in the quarterfinals. The Vikings earned a 53-52 victory over the Frazee Hornets in their first round contest.

The Yellowjackets finish the season with a 7-18 record overall.
