HOCKEY: Laker girls still searching for first Mid-State win

Lightning goalie Chaia Tulenchik stopped 24 of 25 Laker shots to lead Northern Lakes to a 4-1 Mid-State Conference victory over the Detroit Lakes Tuesday in Breezy Point.

The Lightning scored the first four goals by Sam Gutzman, Catie Gutzman, Kenzie Rickard and Mandi Soderholm leading 1-0 at the first intermission and 4-0 after two periods of play.

Jamie Bollig tallied the only Laker goal with an assist from Payton Carlblom.

The Lightning, who have won four straight and nine of their last 10, lead the Mid-State with a 3-0 record at the midway point of conference play. Prairie Centre and the Lakers tied for the conference title last year. The Lightning have rebounded from a 1-5 last place finish in 2015-16.

DL is winless in four conference games (0-3-1). The Lakers (3-12-1) host East Grand Forks (6-3-1) Thursday, Jan. 5 at 7 p.m.,  in a Section 8A game.

The Green Wave shutout the Lakers 7-0 in East Grand Forks in late November.
