Perham Tennis team extends streak to nine

The Perham Boys Tennis team is in its second year of existence after emerging as a varsity program last season for the first time after an extended layoff. However, you wouldn’t notice it by the way they are playing on the courts.

Once again, the Yellowjackets earned a convincing win over a local foe, this time disposing of Park Rapids Area, 7-0, in Park Rapids on May 10.

Jameson Miller’s squad is sitting at 9-0 with a couple of key dual meets looming on May 11 and May 12.

The Yellowjackets travel to Detroit Lakes to take on the Lakers and will square off with the Crookston Pirates on Friday, May 12 in Crookston. The Pirates are one of the Section 8A favorites.

In singles action against Park Rapids, the Yellowjackets dropped just 11 total games on their way to four straight set wins. The doubles dropped the same amount of games, earning three straight set wins as well.

Carter Cresap was victorious in straight sets, defeating Connor Shaw, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1. Ben Winkels cruised at No. 2, winning 6-1, 6-1 over Nolan Booge. Drew Birkeland did not drop a single game when he defeated Zach Nelson at No. 3. Josh Peterson closed out at No. 4, winning 6-1, 6-1, against Tanner Stromback.

Gunnar Anderson and Ryan Murphy won in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2, defeating Nick Porozinski and Evan Booge at No. 1 doubles. Aaron Solberg and Noah Christenson earned a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Jacob Gruis and Gunnar Larson. Anthony Reese and Wyatt Guck closed out at No. 3, defeating Kenny David and Ashton Clark, 6-2, 6-4.
