Perham eliminated from 8AA playoffs by Pequot Lakes

The Perham Yellowjackets rallied from a 2-0 deficit and forced a deciding fifth set before falling to the Pequot Lakes Patriots 25-22, 25-21, 23-25, 20-25 and 15-10 in the Section 8AA quarterfinals on Oct. 28 in Pequot Lakes.

The Yellowjackets found themselves on the wrong side of the first two sets that went back-and-forth with the Patriots rallying late in each set to take the early lead. However, the Yellowjackets did not wilt in the third and fourth games, rallying to force a fifth and final set.

The first set was even down to the wire, yet it was the Patriots scoring the final three points, breaking a 22-22 tie, earning the 25-22 win in set one. The Yellowjackets found themselves in a close battle in the second set, falling 25-21.

However, they battled back in the third set, holding off Pequot Lakes, winning 25-23. They built up a lead in set four, taking an 18-14 lead and surging to the win, earning a 25-20 victory, forcing a fifth and final set.

The Yellowjackets fell behind in the fifth set and could not overcome the deficits. They trailed 10-7 and 12-10, before falling 15-10, having their season come to a close.

The Yellowjackets end their season with a 16-12 mark overall, while finishing 5-1 in the Heart O’Lakes Conference, clinching a share of the title.
