Eleven Special Olympic athletes from Perham competed Aug. 8 at the Area 4 Special Olympics Bocce Matches. They competed against Alexandria, Moorhead and St. Cloud in the Northstar Sports Complex in Alexandria.

In singles competition Perham had nine out of 11 first places: Melissa Barvels, Mike Erlandson, Parker Glynn, Richard Kempenich, Lisa Maninga, Tyler Olsen, Ryan Schattschneider, Philip Tweeton and Amanda Wothe. Second place went to Isaac Billings and Troy Tierney.

The Doubles Teams of Mike Erlandson and Tyler Olsen along with Lisa Maninga and Philip Tweeton captured first place. Receiving third place were the teams of Parker Glynn and Troy Tierney and Isaac Billings and Richard Kempenich. In the Modified Unified Doubles Melissa Barvels and Linda Barvels brought home first place.

The team will continue to practice for the Fall State Games Sept. 28 and 29 at HealthEast Sports Center in Woodbury.
