2011 Youth Turkey Hunt

The youth hunters are pictured after the Ottertail Lakes Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation picnic held following Saturday's hunt.

Despite the snow and cold, twenty youth hunters from around the state of Minnesota participated in the Ottertail County Youth Turkey Hunt on April 16-17.

Conditions were drastically different than the previous three annual events. However, it didn't dampen the spirits of the hunters.

The excitement was evident for all hunters as they shared their stories after the first day at a picnic held at Sewer Service, near Richville, Minn.

The Ottertail Lakes Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation hosted the picnic.

A big thank you goes out to Dean's Country Market for their generosity in helping with the food for the picnic.

With aid from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, this hunt has provided opportunities to reach out and grasp the interest of youth and their parents to get out and enjoy turkey hunting.

The harvest rate was astounding with 12 of 20 hunters harvesting a turkey. This was possible mostly because of the willingness of landowners to allow access to their land and the mentors taking these youngsters out.
