Wadena Gold wins little league playoffs

The Wadena Gold little league team defeated the Perham Diamondbacks 1-0 in the championship game to take the Lakes Area Little League title.

The two teams met in the semi-finals of the double-elimination tournament with Wadena scoring five runs early and hanging on for the shutout to advance undefeated to the title game.

The Diamondbacks took the long road to the championship game moving through the loser's bracket and would have had to win twice versus Wadena Gold to take the title.

Wadena Gold defeated defending champions Richville to open their tournament. In the second round, they slipped by the New York Mills Sox 5-4 to advance to play the Diamondbacks.

The Diamondbacks defeated Frazee White 6-1 and the NY Mills Mets 3-1 to get advance to the semifinals.

The Sox and Diamondbacks met in an elimination game with the victory advancing to the title game.

The Diamondbacks nipped the Sox 1-0, a second one-run loss in the tournament for the Sox.

The Perham Twins were knocked out in consecutive games; a 4-0 loss to the NY Mills Mets and Frazee White eliminated the Twins 11-1.

The Mets were eliminated by Wadena Blue 14-3.
