DELANO - A pair of draftees squared off on the mound, as the Midway Snurdbirds defeated the Upsala Blue Jays 4-1 to advance to the second round of the Minnesota State C baseball tournament.
Jan-Erik Lindberg, drafted by the Snurdbirds from Pelican Rapids, allowed only three hits in eight innings to get the win for Midway. Lindberg fanned four and walked three.
Peter Burg, a draftee from Freeport, took the loss throwing six innings in relief of Upsala starter Matt Swanson, who lasted only two innings. All four of the runs allowed by Burg were earned. He struck out five Midway batters.
Blue Jays second baseman John Fuchs had two of the three Upsala hits including an RBI in the seventh inning to score left fielder Brady Burggraff for the Jays only run of the game.
Midway never trailed scoring three times the first time the Snurdbirds got a look at Burg in the third inning and added an insurance run in the fifth.
