Yellowjackets take two from Hawley

The Perham offense came out of a slumber in its doubleheader sweep of Hawley on May 14 in Hawley. The Yellowjackets scored 25 runs on 25 hits in their 13-2 and 12-4 victories over the Nuggets.

The victory moves the Yellowjackets to 7-1 in the Heart O’Lakes Conference and 10-2 overall on the season.

The bats were silent for the first three innings in game one, but came alive with three runs in the fourth, five in the fifth and five in the sixth innings.

The run-support was more than enough for Dawson Stevens. The left-handed pitcher picked up his fourth win of the season. He went five innings and allowed two runs on six hits. He struck out five and walked two batters.

Ian Christenson highlighted the offense with a grand-slam home run in the sixth inning. It was one of two home runs hit by the Yellowjackets in the game. Jace Kovash connected for the other home-run, which was of the two-run variety. Kovash’s home run came after Hawley cut into the Perham lead.

Christenson’s blast came in the sixth inning and closed out the scoring for Perham. He finished the game with four runs batted in.

Jace Kovash and Maddux Kovash drove in two runs each, while Carter Mulcahy drove in three. Nick Lindberg, Stevens, Maddux Kovash and Mulcahy had two hits each.

The Yellowjackets fell behind in game two, but wasted little time in coming-from-behind. The Yellowjackets scored two in the second, eight in the third and two in the fourth for the HOL sweep.

Mulcahy finished with three hits, three runs scored and two runs batted in. Benson Nyhus and Nick Lindberg added a pair of hit each. Lindberg drove in three runs as well. Noah Rooney drove home two runs. Ty Moser, Jace Kovash, Stevens, Ryan Kalina and Dylan Fudge added hits as well.

The Yellowjackets return to action with a doubleheader in Frazee when they take on the Hornets on Thursday, May 17 at 4 p.m.
