Perham junior to be Noah Rooney participated in the Prep Baseball Report’s Future Games at Cartersville, Ga., on July 31-Aug. 3.

The Future Games are for the top uncommitted Class of 2021 prospects and select 2022 prospects from the 40 state area that the Prep Baseball Report covers. More than 250 college coaches attended last year’s event and roughly the same attended the event in 2019.

Rooney, who helped Perham to the Section 8AA Championship and the Class AA State Tournament, pitched for Team Iowa/Minnesota at the event.

Rooney said the PBR director of Minnesota watched him pitch at the Class AA Tournament in St. Cloud. Rooney was invited to attend the event after pitching against Paynesville in the tournament.

The event allowed Rooney to face some of the best competition around the country at the event in Georgia.

“Our team consisted of 21 of the best players of Minnesota, Nebraska and Iowa,” Rooney said, “It was a great experience to pitch against some of the best hitters in the country and to learn from others on how to get people out and just learning a lot about becoming a better pitcher in general.”

Rooney said the event was a lot of fun and one of his best baseball experiences in his life.

“It’s just cool to watch some of the best people play, to be a part of that and knowing that some of these guys could be in the Major Leagues in a couple of years,” Rooney said. “That was really cool.”

Rooney pitched a pair of innings in the event. His first outing was a scoreless inning and in his second outing, he recorded a strikeout while giving up three runs to some of the best hitters in the country.

Rooney said his highlight was coming in and getting a strike out. He said it was a super fun experience. He said it was crazy to see the level of competition from across the nation.

Rooney said the event was a great motivator for him.

“I’ll continue to try and get better and get as best as I can and achieve my dream of playing college baseball somewhere,” Rooney said. “That was one of the best baseball experiences I have had in my life just to play with some of the best players across the country. It was a lot of fun, and I was super glad to be a part of it.”
