Perham drops regular season finale

The Perham baseball team closed out the regular season with a tough defeat to Fergus Falls 4-1 in Fergus Falls on May 23.

The Yellowjackets finished the regular season with a 17-2 record and has essentially locked up the No. 1 seed for the Section 8AA playoffs.

However, it was Fergus Falls stunning the Yellowjackets in the regular season finale. The Otters struck first in the first against Noah Rooney. Brock Kotschevar started the scoring for Fergus Falls with a two-out, two-run single in the first.

It ended up being enough for Kotschevar. He went five strong innings to pick up the win. He struck out six and walked three batters. He allowed one hit in the game for the victory.

Fergus Falls’ Cole Kundsen doubled in a pair of runs in the fifth, extending the lead to 4-0.

Perham cut into the lead when Stephen Lindberg hit into a fielder’s choice, allowing Dawson Stevens to score.

It would be the lone run Perham would muster up against Fergus Falls’ pitching. Ashwin Stratton picked up the save on the bump. He went two innings and allowed one run on two hits. He walked one batter.

Rooney took the loss for Perham. He allowed four runs on seven hits. He struck out eight but walked two batters.

Josh Jeziorski, Michael Benke and Rooney had the lone hits for Perham. Perham left seven runners on base, six of them in scoring position.
