The Perham Buzz suffered its fourth straight loss when they were defeated by Fergus Falls 7-3 on July 15 at Krueger Field. The Buzz shot themselves in the foot, committing four errors, allowing six walks and three hit batters in the loss.
The miscues were timely as Fergus Falls was able to take advantage of them as they built up an early lead, which they continued to add on to throughout the game.
A three-base throwing error led to the game's first run when Abel Aho walked and scored on the grounder that allowed Nic Pearson to reach third base. Arik Heacox was hit by a pitch and stole second, while he was swiping second, Pearson broke and scored to make it 2-0.
Heacox delivered an RBI double in the third inning, helping Fergus Falls' extend its lead to 3-0 in the third inning.
Mike Wiederich reached in the sixth when he was hit by a pitch and moved up on an error. He eventually scored on a sacrifice fly from Ian Stumbo.
The Buzz cut into the lead in the sixth inning with a home run to left field from Chas Melvin, which made it 4-1.
However, Fergus Falls responded with three more runs in the seventh inning. Aho, Pearson, Heacox all singled and scored in the inning. Brock Kotschevar drove in two of the three runs, while Heacox drove in a run as well when Fergus Falls stretched the lead to 7-1.
Perham answered with a run of its own on a solo home run to left field from Carter Mulcahy.
Perham threatened in the eighth inning and loaded the bases. However, they were unable to push a run across. The Buzz cut the lead to four in the ninth, but couldn't get any closer. Noah Rooney struck out but reached on a wild pitch and eventually scored when Melvin grounded him in.
Jayden Ollila picked up the win on the mound. He pitched five and a third, allowing one run on four hits. He struck out four, walked three and hit one. Carter Thielke earned the save. He allowed two runs on two hits and struck out five batters.
Finn Diggins took the loss for Perham. He pitched into the fifth inning and allowed three runs on two hits. He struck out three, walked four and hit one. Logan Pulju allowed four runs on four hits, he walked one and hit two in an inning and two-thirds of relief. Mick Meyer pitched the final three innings and did not allow a run. He gave up two hits and walked one, while striking out two.
Mulcahy recorded a hit, a run scored an RBI, while Melvin had a hit and two runs batted in. Maddux Kovash, Stephen Lindberg, Mick Meyer and Ben Shumansky had hits for Perham in the loss.
Perham returns to the diamond when they take on Detroit Lakes for a double header on July 16 at 5 and 7 p.m. at Krueger Field.
