The Perham Yellowjackets baseball team had its seven-game winning streak snapped with a 14-9 loss to the Andover Golden Warriors Saturday, May 8.
Andover started the scoring early, collecting three runs in the first inning after a couple of Yellowjacket errors. The Golden Warriors added four more runs in the fourth inning, leaving the Yellowjackets in a 7-0 hole midway through the game.
Perham's bats started to come alive in the sixth inning. Logan Pulju started the inning with a walk, and Ben Shumansky hit a single, advancing Pulju to second. Rian Solberg ground out but advanced Pulju and Shumansky. Jack Mensing then hit a ground ball and reached on an error by Andover. Both Pulju and Shumansky scored. After a strikeout by Gage Germolus, Austin Aanenson hit a ground ball and reached on an error, allowing Mensing to score before the inning ended.
Andover responded in the seventh inning, scoring seven more runs. The Yellowjackets rallied in the bottom of the seventh, scoring six additional runs. Andrew Smith singled and then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Chas Melvin walked, and then both runners advanced on a wild pitch. Pulju walked, and Shumansky singled to center field, driving in Smith and Melvin. Solberg walked, and Mensing was hit by a pitch, which allowed Pulju to score.
With the bases loaded, Germolus struck out looking. Aanenson then ground out, but Shumansky scored. Jacob McAllister then doubled on a pop fly, scoring Solberg and Mensing. The game ended when Smith popped out to second base.
Pulju was the starting pitcher for the Yellowjackets, and he allowed five hits and seven runs over two and a third innings. Aanenson and Smith pitched from the bullpen, throwing three and two-thirds innings and one inning, respectively.
The Yellowjackets are 9-2 on the season. They travel to Frazee Tuesday, May 11, for a 4 p.m. doubleheader.

Yellowjackets defeat Anoka 9-5 on May 8
Perham took the lead late in the game against the Anoka Tornadoes in a 9-5 victory Saturday, May 8, in Anoka.
Anoka scored in the first inning, and the Yellowjackets answered back with a run in the top of the second inning. They added two more runs in the top of the third, and the Tornadoes added a run in the bottom of the third. Anoka tied the game in the fourth inning when it added another run.
The Yellowjackets took the lead again in the top of the fifth inning with a run scored, but the Tornadoes took the lead right back in the bottom of the fifth when they scored two runs.
Perham's big inning came in the sixth, when they took the lead for good on four runs. The Yellowjackets added an insurance run in the seventh for a final score of 9-5.
Chas Melvin earned the win for Perham, pitching five innings and allowing six hits and five runs while striking out five. Austin Schmelz threw two innings in relief.
The Yellowjackets had 10 hits in the game. Rian Solberg and Andrew Smith each had multiple hits, with Solberg going 3-4 at the plate.

Perham sweeps Barnesville in doubleheader
The Yellowjackets swept a doubleheader against the Trojans, winning the first game 10-0 and the second game 15-2 Thursday, May 6, at Krueger Field in Perham.
In the first game, Perham senior Finn Diggins threw a complete game shutout. He allowed just three hits, walked 2, and struck out 10 in the outing.
Chas Melvin kicked off the Yellowjackets offense in the first inning, hitting a solo home run. He had two RBI in the game. Rian Solberg hit the second home run of the game for Perham in the fifth inning. Solberg also drive in four runs and went 2-3 at the plate.
Perham started game two of the doubleheader by putting four runs on the board in the first inning. The Trojans had some trouble with pitch control, allowing runners to advance or score on four wild pitches. Ben Shumansky also got on base after being hit by a pitch, although he was later caught stealing home in the inning.
The Yellowjackets added two more runs in the second, third, and fifth innings, bringing their lead to 10-0 midway through the game. Barnesville scored its only two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, after Carsen Hagen hit a ground ball and reached on an error by shortstop Conner Colliton, allowing Barnesville's Payton Pauna and Jack Olson to score.
Perham added one run in the top of the sixth and four runs in the top of the seventh to clinch the 15-2 victory. Gage Germolus was the winning pitcher for the Yellowjackets, throwing 4 innings and allowing two hits while striking out seven. He was relieved by Caden Schossow and Austin Aanenson, who pitched one and two innings, respectively.
