Hawley earns season sweep of Perham

The Hawley Nuggets continued the Perham girls basketball team’s struggles in the Heart O’Lakes Conference with a 59-45 victory on Feb. 9 in Perham.

It’s the Yellowjackets fourth straight loss to an HOL rival, which dropped them to 4-5 in conference play.

Marissa Thompson led the way for the Nuggets. She finished with 16 points. Emily Tjaden and Abby Rux finished with 10 each. The visitors raced out to a 28-19 first half lead and extended it in the second half, outscoring the Yellowjackets, 31-26.

The Yellowjackets hit eight 3-pointers in the contest, but just could not get on track against the Nuggets. Gabby DeBoer paced the Yellowjackets with 13 points, while Rachel Muer added nine.
