Perham maintains its No. 3 ranking in state

The Perham boys basketball team maintained its ranking at No. 3 in the Class AA Minnesota State High School Polls from Minnesota Basketball News.

The Yellowjackets improved to 7-1 overall with victories over Sauk Centre and Fergus Falls over the holiday break. The Yellowjackets have maintained that No. 3 spot since the beginning of the season.

The Yellowjackets continue their 2018-19 season with the Crossover Classic on Jan. 5 when they take on section foe, East Grand Forks. It will mark the third Breakdown event the Yellowjackets have played in and the first ever Breakdown event to be hosted in Perham at the Hive. The event features seven basketball games, five boys and two girls basketball games, beginning at 10 a.m.

A trio of Perham opponents stayed in the top 10 with Minnehaha Academy holding onto the No. 1 spot. Caledonia is ranked sixth and Holy Family Catholic is ranked seventh. Perham will face Holy Family Catholic in February at the Winter Lakes Classic in Alexandria, another Breakdown event.

However, a pair of section and conference rivals dropped out of the most recent polls. Hawley, who suffered its first loss of the season when they were defeated by Fergus Falls by a point, dropped out of the poll. Breckenridge, who suffered a sound defeat at the hands of Sioux Falls Christian, dropped to 4-3 and exited the polls as well.
