Strong second half lifts Perham over Frazee
The Perham Yellowjackets used a big second half to pull out its third straight Heart O’Lakes girls basketball win when they defeated the Hornets 61-45 at the Hive on Jan. 15.
The Yellowjackets used a 14-0 run in the second half to break open a close game against their Highway 10 rival.
Perham had three players finish in double figures with Grayce Mickelson leading the way. Mickelson finished with 23 points, 16 of them coming in the second half to pace the Yellowjackets. Mesa Schultz finished with 11 points, while Rachel Muer ended the game with eight points.
Paige Oswald and Madison Starry led the way for Frazee with 10 points each. The Yellowjackets clamped down on Oswald in the second half as she scored just one of her 10 points in the second half.
The Yellowjackets struggled with turnovers in the first half, but cleaned it up in the second half. They recorded 15 steals of their own in the game. Mickelson was credited with seven of them, many of the steals led to easy baskets at the other end.
The Yellowjackets are now 7-7 and 3-2 in the Heart O’Lakes Conference. The Yellowjackets travel to Detroit Lakes for a 7:30 p.m. tilt on Jan. 17.
