Four members of the Perham girls basketball team were honored by the Heart O’Lakes Conference for their efforts during the 2019-20 season. The Yellowjackets had two players named to the HOL All-Conference Team, while two received Honorable Mention honors as well.
Junior Katie Johnson and sophomore Sydney Anderson were named to the All-Conference team, while junior Grayce Mickelson and sophomore Greta Hillukka received Honorable Mention honors.
The Yellowjackets finished third overall in the HOL Conference with a 6-6 record overall. Pelican Rapids finished first with a 12-0 mark on its way to a 30-1 record and an appearance in the Class AA Tournament. Hawley came in second place with a 10-2 record and a 22-6 mark overall. Breckenridge finished a game back of Perham with a 5-7 mark and a 15-12 overall record. Frazee, Barnesville and Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton all finished with 3-9 records. Frazee was 13-13 overall, while Barnesville was 12-15 and DGF was 9-17. Five of the seven HOL teams finished with records .500 or better during the 2019-20 season.
Hawley’s Paige Thompson was named the HOL’s Most Valuable Player for her efforts during the 2019-20 season.
Johnson was second on the team in scoring, averaging 12.8 points per game. She was 35.5 percent from the 3-point line. She was second on the team in free throw shooting, hitting at 71.9 percent. She was second on the team in rebounding as well, hauling in four rebounds per game for the Yellowjackets.
Anderson led the Yellowjackets in scoring, averaging 13.6 points per game. She led the team in free throw percentage, hitting 72.7 percent of her free throws. Anderson hit 38.2 percent of her 3-point attempts and was second in 3-pointers made per game. Anderson hauled in 3.2 rebounds per game for the Yellowjackets
Johnson and Anderson were joined by Pelican Rapids’ Greta Tollefson, Anna Stephenson and Maddie Guler on the HOL All-Conference Team. Hawley’s Thompson, Kaylie Crabtree and Kylie Crabtree were named to the team as well. Frazee’s Paige Ziegler and Paige Oswald were named to the team as well as Breckenridge’s Jude Held and Grace Conzemius. Barnesville’s Emily Bredman and Lauren Halverson were named to the team as well.
Mickelson was named HOL Honorable Mention. She averaged 6.6 points per game and dished out 2.5 assists per game, leading the Yellowjackets. She grabbed 3.6 rebounds per game and was one of the key defensive stoppers for the Yellowjackets.
Hillukka finished the season, averaging 13.8 points per game in a shortened season due to a knee injury. She hit on 39.5 percent of her 3-pointers. She dished out 2 assists per game and grabbed 3.8 rebounds per game during the season.
DGF’s Peyton Wilson, Olivia Feigum and Megan Thune received Honorable Mention honors as well. Pelican Rapids’ Rylie Paulson and Abby Syverson, Breckenridge’s Riley Lorentz, Frazee’s Annika Reierson and Barnesville’s Sam Passa received HOL All Conference Honorable Mention honors.
