After a close first half in which the lead continued to change hands, the Perham Yellowjackets came out in the second half and outplayed the Barnesville Trojans to extend their winning streak to six games.

"We got some key defensive stops and really had some good ball movement against their pressure defense," Perham Coach Dave Cresap said after the 64-51 victory Thursday, Feb. 25., at The Hive. "We had many guys step up and make plays for us. Very proud of these guys."

Perham's Soren Anderson was one of the players that stepped up and had a big second half, and he led the team with 15 points overall, going 6-6 on two-point shots and 1-2 on three-pointers.

The game started at a very fast pace, but four minutes in, the score was tied at 3. The Yellowjackets ball handling and passing was a little sloppy early on, creating some turnovers that Barnesville was able to capitalize on. The score remained close in the first half, with the lead changing hands repeatedly.

Perham was up by one at the end of the first half when Barnesville's Adam Tonsfeldt stole the ball and scored with three seconds to go, giving Barnesville a 29-28 lead going into the second half.

While Barnesville controlled the tempo in the first half, Perham came out in the second half, controlled the boards and took care of the ball much better, Cresap said. Perham's Gabe Thompson hit two 3-pointers back-to-back to give Perham it's largest lead of the night to that point, 45-37 with 10:23 to play. Barnesville's Logan Ernst answered with a 3-pointer to narrow the lead to five.

With Perham leading 62-51 with one minute to go in the game, Soren Anderson hit a two-point shot to bring the final score to 64-51 and give the Yellowjackets the win.

The Yellowjackets' win over the Heart of Lakes conference improves their record to 10-2 on the season. They host Pequot Lakes at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 26.
