BBB: Perham extends streak to four

Perham-The Minnesota Timberwolves mascot, Crunch, put on a display at halftime, and then the Perham Yellowjackets put on a show in the second half, picking up a 53-43 victory over Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton at the Prairie Wind Middle School gymnasium on Thursday, Jan. 15. “I thought we played extremely hard the whole game. For the short amount of time and the amount of games that we had, I thought the kids bounced back and played extremely hard,” Perham Head Coach Dave Cresap said. “We had some younger kids step up and some old kids step up. In the second half, we really had Sam Muer step up. We really needed that from Sam. He was a beast on the boards along with Zack Tellinghuisen. Then, we brought in Reid Moser and he hit three big shots. I’m so proud of these guys. They keep playing harder and harder.” The Yellowjackets had three players finish in double figures against the Rebels. Jaden Anderson finished with 15, while Sam Muer added 11. Christian Weis finished with 10. Muer recorded the double-double with 11 rebounds. “We played great,” Muer said. “We came out a little slow, but when we got used to the team… we played better and started shooting well.”
The Yellowjackets received valuable minutes from their bench. Reid Moser drained two 3-pointers and a deep baseline jumper in the second half. Zack Tellinghuisen battled inside for six boards and two points off the bench. Aaron Solberg gave the team valuable minutes in the first half, as well. “I thought that was a key. We were in early foul trouble with two posts on the bench,” Cresap said. ”I thought we just kept on persevering, just kept on battling and ended up with a nice win. For the short amount of time and the amount of games that we had, I thought the kids bounced back and played extremely hard,” Perham Head Coach Dave Cresap said. “We had some younger kids step up and some old kids step up. In the second half, we really had Sam Muer step up. We really needed that from Sam. He was a beast on the boards along with Zack Tellinghuisen. Then, we brought in Reid Moser and he hit three big shots. I’m so proud of these guys. They keep playing harder and harder.”The Yellowjackets had three players finish in double figures against the Rebels. Jaden Anderson finished with 15, while Sam Muer added 11. Christian Weis finished with 10. Muer recorded the double-double with 11 rebounds. “We played great,” Muer said. “We came out a little slow, but when we got used to the team… we played better and started shooting well.”[[{"type":"media","view_mode":"media_large","fid":"1463301","attributes":{"alt":"","class":"media-image","height":"421","typeof":"foaf:Image","width":"480"}}]]The Yellowjackets received valuable minutes from their bench. Reid Moser drained two 3-pointers and a deep baseline jumper in the second half. Zack Tellinghuisen battled inside for six boards and two points off the bench. Aaron Solberg gave the team valuable minutes in the first half, as well. “I thought that was a key. We were in early foul trouble with two posts on the bench,” Cresap said. ”I thought we just kept on persevering, just kept on battling and ended up with a nice win. I couldn’t be prouder of the guys.”The Yellowjackets hit from the outside in the first half. They connected on six 3-pointers in the opening half. However, Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton switched to a diamond-and-1 to slow down the Yellowjackets. The defensive switch paid off, slowing the Perham attack. The Yellowjackets held a 25-21 first half lead, after leading by seven late in the half. “They did that and it confused us. We had never seen that yet. I’ll take the blame for that one that we weren’t prepared,” Cresap said. “In the second half, we adjusted to it. We moved Beachy up top and got him out of the play and let some other guys play. Muer created some opportunities for Moser and he knocked them down.”The Rebels tied the game at 30 with 11 minutes to go in the game and then Muer took over. Muer sat the early portion of the half on the bench due to foul trouble. “I was talking to Coach (Ryan) Reuter and he said we were looking like we were running around like crazy,” Muer said. “He said to go in there and slow down a bit. I went in and held the ball, waited for them to come up on me and made a play. I kicked out to someone to make a 3-pointer and that’s what happened.”Not only did Muer find the open shooter, he attacked the glass and hit several key shots. All 11 of Muer’s points came in the second half. The Rebels held a one-point lead, 39-38, after Kyle Rothschadl hit a bucket. The Yellowjackets went on a 10-0 run. Muer and Moser had five each during the run. The Yellowjackets eventually iced the game from the free throw line. The Yellowjackets extended their winning streak to four games, and are now 7-6 on the season. DGF dropped to 7-6 overall. “I can’t thank our crowd enough. It was a great night with Crunch,” Cresap said. “I heard it was a good show and our crowd was really good. The Yellowjackets outscored Park Rapids by 12, 34-22, in the decisive second half. Christian Weis led four Yellowjackets in double figures. He finished with a season high of 20 points, breaking his earlier point total of 17 set earlier in the season.
Jaden Anderson and Sam Muer each added 12 points. Jenson Beachy finished with 10 points in the win. Jordan McCollum paced Park Rapids with 14.
