The Perham boys tennis team had its season come to a close with the Section 8A Individual Singles and Doubles Tournaments in Fergus Falls on May 24 and 25 in Fergus Falls.
The Yellowjackets were led by Carter Cresap. Cresap capped off his sophomore season with a fourth place finish in the section singles tournament. He opened with a pair of wins, before falling in the semifinals and the third place contest.
Cresap started the tournament with a straight set victory. He defeated East Grand Forks’ Justus Gauss, 6-0, 6-0 in his opening round match. The No. 2 seed followed it up with a straight set victory over Thief River Falls Camden Broadwell in the quarterfinals. Cresap’s run to the championship came to an end when he ran into Minnewaska Area’s Carter LaMont. LaMont earned a straight set victory over Cresap, defeating the sophomore, 6-1, 6-2.
Cresap’s bid for third place came to a close in straight sets. Minnewaska Area’s Tate Reichmann picked up a straight set victory, defeating Cresap, 6-2, 6-4, closing out Cresap’s season.
Perham’s Ben Winkels had his season come to a close in the quarterfinals. Winkels ended as an 11th seed and pulled off a first round upset. Winkels worked quickly, defeating Fergus Falls Noah Tarczon in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3. However, Winkels run came to a close when he was defeated by LaMont in the section quarterfinals. LaMont defeated Winkels in straight sets, 6 -1, 6-2.

On the doubles side of the tournament, Perham’s Gunnar Anderson and Ryan Murphy opened with a straight set victory over Minnewaska Area’s Sam Peters and Calvin Hoffmann. The tournament’s fourth seeded team earned the hard-fought win in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.
However, their run came to a close in the quarterfinals when they were defeated by Crookston’s Mitchell Olson and Jake Widseth in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2.
The Yellowjacket duo of Aaron Solberg and Noah Christenson finished out the season, falling to Widseth and Olson in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.
