Perham girls fourth at Lucky Lindy

The top-ranked Class A team in girls cross country was the top finishing cross country team at the annual Lucky Lindy Invitational in Little Falls on Sept. 13. The Perham Yellowjackets came in fourth, just 12 points off the pace set by Alexandria.

The Cardinals finished with 82 points, while Sartell was second and Monticello was third. Hopkins rounded out the top five.

The Yellowjackets have a strong one-two punch at the top of their order, with the middle pack pushing up at the front. Caitlin Covington and Liz Birkeland earned top 10 finishes for Perham, while Emily VanWatermulen and Hailey Wegscheid finished inside the top 30.

Covington was fourth with a time of 19 minutes and 42.5 seconds. Birkeland was seventh at 19:50.8, forming a steady one-two punch.

Sartell’s Ingrid Buiceag-Arama took home top honors. She finished with a time of 19:13.2. Monticello’s Elise Yeager was second at 19:22.7. Becker’s Danielle Nuest came in third at 19:41.7.

VanWatermulen crossed the line with a time of 20:43.4, while Wegscheid came in 30th at 20:56.5. Lauryn Rustad was just outside the top 30 when she finished in 32nd place overall. Rustad was the fifth point getter for the Yellowjackets in the meet. She finished with a time of 20:59.2.

Quincy Anderson came in 40th place with a time of 21:22.7 and Mya Morris rounded out the varsity field for Perham. She finished the race with a time of 21:29.4.

The Yellowjackets enjoy an extended break from competition. There next meet will be the Milaca Mega Meet on Sept. 22. The Milaca Mega Meet is annually the largest cross country meet in the nation.
