The Perham girls cross country team continues to maintain its gap with the Staples-Motley Cardinals when the Yellowjackets finished fifth at the 54th annual Lucky Lindy Invitational at the Little Falls Golf Course on Sept. 12.
The Cardinals are ranked second in Class A, while Perham is closely behind at No. 3. The teams were separated by four points at the Minnesota State University-Moorhead Twilight Meet and once again, they were separated by four points at the Lucky Lindy Invitational.
Staples-Motley was fourth with 140 points, while Perham was second with 144 points, the top Class A teams in the 17-team field. Alexandria finished first with 42 points, while Rocori was second with 63 points. Laguna Beach came in third with 118 points, while Staples-Motley and Perham rounded out the top five.
Rocori's Katelyn Motter came in first place with a time of 19 minutes and 14.6 seconds. She was followed by Staples-Motley's Kyanna Burton with a time of 19:17.5. Rocori's Ava Larsen finished third at 19:34.5, while a pair of Alexandria runners came in fourth and fifth place. Aleah Miller was fourth at 19:35.2, while Caitlin Bright came in fifth with the same time.
The Yellowjackets were led by Perham's Aspen Rohde. Rohde came in sixth place. She finished with a time of 19:35.8.
Perham's Liz Birkeland jumped up to the second spot for Perham. She finished in 27th place overall. She came in with a time of 20:33.7. Birkeland was followed by Quincy Anderson, who came in 32nd place with a time of 20:44.3.
May Morris finished in 38th place overall. Morris finished with a time of 20:53.9. Lauryn Rustad came in 41st place when she crossed the finish line with a time of 21:01.9. Rustad was the fifth scoring runner for Perham across the line.
Abby Tweeton came in 46th place with a time of 21:05.8, while Kaia Starzl made her varsity debut as the seventh runner for Perham. Starzl came in with a time of 21:42.4 for 53rd place overall.
The Yellowjackets are in action on Sept. 21 with the annual Milaca Mega Meet at 9 a.m.
