The No. 4-1A New York Mills softball team continued their winning ways last week, continuing their solid hitting, matched with solid defense and great pitching. On April 16, the Eagles hosted the Ashby Arrows, defeating them 15-7.
Ashby scored four runs in the top of the first inning off of pitcher Alexis Rannka. The Eagles with a run in the bottom of the first when EmaLeigh Roberts scored on a Autumn Roberts single. With score, 4-2 in the bottom of the second inning, NYM scored four runs to take control of the game. Brittany Lee led off the inning with a double, while Amy Nebosis walked. After a sacrifice by Leann Flannigan and a ground out by Rannka which scored Lee, Brooklyn Frost singled home Nebosis. With the score tie, Kristin Kane, EmaLeigh Roberts and Autumn Roberts all singled bringing the cored to 6-4 in favor of the Eagles. NYM would add nine more runs in the the next three innings to close out the game. EmaLeigh Roberts would collect five hits on the day and collect four stolen bases. Frost and Kane would both finish with two hits.
On April 17, the Eagles would host Bertha-Hewitt and sweep both games of the doubleheader. In game one, B-H held a 4-3 lead going into the bottom of the inning. Flannigan would start the inning off with a single, followed wth Frost hitting a single of her own. Lydia Irons would then reach safely on an error by the Arrow's center fielder. Kane would then single and EmaLeigh Roberts would hit a ground out but collect an RBI to finish the inning with a score of 6-4 in favor of the Eagles. Pitcher Autumn Roberts would allow just three more hits the rest of the game to close out Bears.
In game two of the doubleheader, Rannka ran into trouble with control in the fourth inning walking four Bear batters. The Bears would hold a 4-2 lead into the seventh inning, when the Eagle bats came alive. Jenna Essela, Flannigan, Rannka, Amanda Roggenkamp all singled, while the EmaLeigh Roberts and Autumn Roberts both doubled scoring 7 runs and winning the game 9-4.
After winning the first three games of the week at home, the Eagles traveled to Parkers Prairie on the April 19. The Eagles had no trouble taking care of the Panthers, winning the game 19-7. NYM would collect 18 hits and were led by Amy Nebosis with five hits on the day and five RBI's . EmaLeigh Roberts had four hits including a double and three stolen base. Autumn Roberts would have three hits and scored three runs.
