East Grand Forks skates into consolation final

East Grand Forks advanced to the consolation final following a 5-2 victory over Luverne in the Class A consolation semifinals at Mariucci Arena on the University of Minnesota campuson March 9.

East Grand Forks advanced to the consolation final following a 5-2 victory over Luverne in the Class A consolation semifinals at Mariucci Arena on the University of Minnesota campuson March 9.

Five different goal scorers sparked the Green Wave (18-9-2), including junior defenseman Casey Kallock, who also contributed two assists. Senior forward Nick Lund snapped a 2-all tie with nine minutes remaining in the second period. His tally came just more than seven minutes after Luverne (22-7-1) had tied the score on a goal from junior forward Kasyn Kruse.

East Grand Forks dominated the territorial battle and outshot the Cardinals 50-20, including 17-4 in the first period.

East Grand Forks will play Delano, who defeated Mahtomedi, 8-1, for the consolation championship on Saturday, March 11 at Mariucci Arena at the University of Minnesota at 10 a.m.
