ORWELL -- Fall duck hunting and fall goose hunting is a fun experience for county residents at public hunting grounds situated at Orwell Lake 6 miles southwest of Fergus Falls.

This area is best known for its dam and reservoir that provides water supply and flood control.

The Army Corps of Engineers stores excess water from spring runoff in the reservoir and a wildlife sanctuary is maintained by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

This fall duck hunting runs through Nov. 24, and goose hunting runs through Dec. 26.

On the west side of the Orwell complex are controlled public hunting zones, including individual blinds for duck and goose hunting on a first come and first served basis.

Vehicles can occupy numbered stalls in a nearby parking lot that correspond to duck and goose blinds, a short walk up a hill from the parking lot. A person must hunt only at a designated hunting station that has a number corresponding to his or her parking stall number.

No more than three hunters may occupy a designated hunting station at one time on the west side of the Orwell complex. A more open area is available for several hunters on the east end of the Orwell reservoir.
