Perham bounced back from a tough homecoming loss with a gutsy 29-28 win on the road over Class AA’s 10th-ranked Osakis.

The Perham offense was stymied by a hard-nosed Osakis defense throughout Friday night, but it was the special teams unit that delivered the winning score. Leading 22-20 early int he fourth quarter, Noah Thompson returned a kick 73-yards for a touchdown. It proved to be the game-winning touchdown in the end.

The Yellowjackets delivered the first blow late in the opening quarter on an eight-yard touchdown run by Chas Melvin. On a three-yard touchdown run, Colton Hackel made it a 15-0 game early in the second quarter. He moved into a tie for first in program history with 47 career touchdowns scored.

The Silverstreaks (5-1) answered with a 70-yard touchdown pass from Kyle Mages to Bauer Klimek 18 seconds later to cut the deficit to seven. Neither team could break through another time before the end of the first half.

Perham’s Braylon Rach gave the Yellowjackets a 22-14 lead on a 17-yard touchdown scamper before back-to-back fourth-quarter touchdown runs from Osakis’ Drew Imdieke cut the lead to two. Thompson took the ensuing kickoff to the house to deliver a game-clinching score.

Osakis’ Tyson Hagedon caught a four-yard touchdown with 48 seconds left to cut the deficit to one, but time ran out on the Silverstreaks as Perham moved to 4-2 on the season.

The Perham defense was on its heels against a high-powered Osakis offense, but it did just enough to keep the Silverstreaks behind the eight ball. Gordy Martinez led the Yellowjackets with 12 total tackles. Hackel and Black Lorentz each had seven, while Melvin, Levi Richter and Brian Ramos recorded six each. Hackel and Richter each came down with an interception on the night.
